Why did you join Traversal?

After spending more than a decade leading sales teams in the observability space at companies like AppDynamics and Cribl, I’ve seen how quickly system complexity is accelerating. The rise of AI-generated code is pushing that even further, and traditional tooling simply wasn’t built for environments where code is written by both humans and AI.

What stood out to me about Traversal is the founders’ framing of the problem. This isn’t just an observability challenge — it’s an AI problem, and solving it requires a fundamentally new approach.

Why did you join Traversal?

During nearly a decade at SignalFx and Splunk, I helped design and operate large-scale observability systems built on streaming telemetry pipelines and distributed infrastructure. Those platforms processed enormous volumes of metrics, traces, and logs from thousands of production environments.

Building and operating those platforms, and working closely with customers on their own telemetry, observability, and incident response processes, showed me how difficult root cause analysis becomes as systems scale across services, dependencies, and infrastructure layers. What excites me about Traversal is the opportunity to apply AI to reason across that operational data and dramatically shorten the time it takes engineers to understand and resolve incidents.

Why did you join Traversal?

I saw parallels with other high-growth companies I’ve been part of. At Cribl, for example, we saw data volumes growing far faster than the budgets organizations had to manage it.

At Traversal, the constraint is human understanding. System complexity and telemetry data are growing faster than engineers can reasonably reason through during an incident. Solutions that address these kinds of inflection points tend to deliver immediate value for customers, which is what makes the opportunity here so compelling.

Why did you join Traversal?

It’s a fast-moving space — I like competition, and I believe we have the edge. I’m familiar with and deeply interested in this industry (ex-SignalFx/Splunk), excited about the product vision, and really hit it off with the team. The timing for disruption feels uncanny. This is my sixth startup, and I thrive in the 0 → 1 (and beyond) phase — here for the chaos, the fun, and the camaraderie.

Why did you join Traversal?

Throughout my career at companies like AppDynamics and Cribl, I’ve focused on helping organizations adopt complex technologies and turn them into real operational value. At Cribl, I had the opportunity to help scale the company more than 20x, building field and value engineering teams that worked closely with customers to solve real problems.

What stands out at Traversal is how clearly customers articulate the challenge. Teams are dealing with production environments that are growing more complex every year, and the traditional ways of investigating incidents simply aren’t keeping up. My focus is helping customers deploy Traversal effectively and realize value quickly across their environments.

Why did you join Traversal?

At SignalFx, where I was the first product marketer and helped grow the company through its acquisition by Splunk, we talked for years about the promise of AI-directed troubleshooting. But the technology never quite caught up to the ambition.

What intrigued me about Traversal was the team’s approach. Instead of layering AI onto observability, they built the AI platform first and layered the observability primitives on top. That foundation allows Traversal to reason across massive volumes of MELT data and identify root causes far faster and more accurate than traditional approaches.

Why did you join Traversal?

I’ve spent the last 14 years in observability at companies like Splunk and Cribl, working with some of the largest and most complex engineering organizations in the world. During that time I watched the space evolve from basic monitoring to a mission-critical enterprise function.

But as telemetry volumes exploded, the gap between collecting data and extracting real insight only widened. What excites me about Traversal is the opportunity to apply AI to that challenge and fundamentally change how teams understand and operate their production systems.
